Fresh Details From Ruto’s Call To Dr Gikonyo After Gachagua’s Admission
Fresh details have emerged in court regarding a phone call allegedly made by President William Ruto concerning former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua after his admission to Karen Hospital in October 2024.
Testifying in court on Wednesday, May 13, cardiologist Dan Gikonyo disclosed that he personally received a call from Ruto inquiring about Gachagua’s medical condition while he was under treatment.
“Your honour, there are always follow-up calls from relatives, parents and friends,” Gikonyo told the court.
“And in this particular case, I must be honest enough to specify that I did receive a call from the president.”

According to the doctor, he informed the president that medical tests were still ongoing and promised that an update would be provided once the examinations were complete.
“He asked about the status of the patient, and I responded accordingly. I just said that we are in the process of doing various tests, and as soon as we conclude, we shall let him know,” he added.
The cardiologist further revealed that before sharing any information, he had to seek permission from the former DP.
Gachagua had been admitted to the facility after allegedly suffering chest complications during his impeachment hearing at the Senate.
“When I said that I had to seek clearance from the patient, which I did, he gave me permission,” the cardiologist told the courtroom.
The revelations came during a tense cross-examination session where lawyers questioned the credibility and completeness of the medical evidence presented before the court.
During the proceedings, the respondent’s lawyer pressed Gikonyo on whether he had attached supporting medical records.

The records include echocardiogram graphs, imaging results, and laboratory reports related to Gachagua’s condition.
The doctor admitted that while the tests had indeed been conducted, the supporting documents had not been attached to the affidavit filed in court.
“You will agree with me that that machine generates a report and a graph,” the lawyer posed. “Yes, it does,” Gikonyo responded.
Asked whether he had attached the graph explaining the patient’s condition, the doctor replied that he had clarified that the records were not presented before the court but were available if need be.
The lawyer also pressed the doctor to explain why images and laboratory reports linked to the alleged blood tests had not been included in the affidavit, with Gikoyo at pains to explain the report’s absence in court.
