Ruto’s CSs Make New Appointments To State Boards In KEY Ministries

The government has announced a series of new appointments and re-appointments to key state agency boards and councils in separate Gazette announcements dated May 15, 2026.

The changes, announced by various Cabinet Secretaries across ministries, affect institutions in the labour, defence, commerce, environment, sports, and health sectors, with all appointments effective immediately.

These nominations determine who will manage billions of shillings, create policy, and maintain accountability in some of Kenya’s most vital state agencies until 2029.

In the Labour Ministry, CS Alfred Mutua reappointed Mike Macharia to the National Social Security Fund’s board of trustees for a three-year term.

In the gazette notice, Macharia was given yet another term to help guide the management and safeguarding of millions of Kenyan workers’ pension contributions.

“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6 (d) (i) of the National Social Security Fund Act, 2013, the Cabinet Secretary for Labour and Social Protection re-appoints Mike Macharia as a Member of the National Social Security Fund Board of Trustees, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from may 15, 2026,” Mutua stated in a statement.

At the same time, Defence CS Soipan Tuya appointed Mercy Nderitu to the board of directors of the Kenya Shipyards Limited, also for a period of three years.

In the sports sector, Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya appointed Yare Abdi Mohamed to the Board of the Anti-Doping Agency of Kenya.

Meanwhile, the Trade Ministry made two appointments, tasking Catherine Njeri Waweru and Douglas Ayabei with the membership of the Warehouse Receipt Council, as announced by CS Lee Kinyanjui.

His Environment and Climate Change counterpart, Debora Barasa, however, reappointed David Mwaure Waihiga as the non-executive chairperson of the National Environment Trust Fund Board of Trustees, a position he has held for the past three years.

In the health sector, Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale appointed Nancy Jebungei Bowen as the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya Medical Laboratory and Technologists Board.

All the appointments and reappointments run for the next three years and take effect from Friday, May 15, when the gazette notices were published.
