DCI Open FULL Investigation Into Gospel Artist Rachel Wandeto’s Death

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has formally opened an investigation into the attack and death of gospel performer Rachel Wandeto.

In a notification issued on Tuesday, May 19, DCI confirmed that investigators from the homicide squad had taken over the investigation following Wandeto’s savage attack in Mwiki.

She later died from her injuries while being treated at Kenyatta National Hospital.

“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Homicide Directorate has taken over investigations into the brutal murder of Rachel Wandeto,” DCI stated in the statement.

According to preliminary investigations, the man was attacked on 11th Street near Obama Road on May 16, 2026, while on his way home.

DCI claims she was confronted by three males who attacked her with a combustible material and set her on fire before fleeing the scene.

Wandeto was then rushed to KNH, where she was found to be 75 per cent burnt.

The gospel artist succumbed to the injuries on Monday, May 18, while undergoing treatment at the facility.

Her attack, however, has been largely attributed to her political affiliation and support of President William Ruto’s reelection in 2027, including drawing a tattoo in his honour.

Several leaders, including the Head of State, condemned the attack, with Ruto stating that firm action would be taken against those responsible, regardless of their political affiliation.

“Detectives are tirelessly working to uncover the full circumstances surrounding this heinous crime and to identify and apprehend all individuals involved in its planning and execution,” DCI added.
