His attempts to evade arrest ended after a brief but intense chase through dense thickets, with officers managing to overpower and detain him safely without further incident reported on scene.

The officers eventually cornered and arrested him before returning him to the exact spot where he had been standing.

They later discovered the improvised explosive device concealed nearby at the roadside area.

Security teams confirmed that the recovered explosive device was safely secured and is being examined as part of ongoing investigations into the intended attack in the region by detectives.

The case remains under active investigation as detectives prepare to arraign the suspect in court, with forensic evidence gathered from the scene going through further tests.

Additionally, at the scene, officers recovered military-style jungle attire, including a jacket and trousers.

The suspect was escorted to Garissa Police Station for processing as detectives widened their investigations ahead of arraignment.

This incident comes a few months after live bombs were discovered at Lake Victoria basin in the Nyanza region, after fishermen reportedly stumbled on live bombs hidden inside the water.

The bombs were recovered in two separate incidents, with the first encounter taking place on Sunday, March 1, when the fishermen thought they had made a big catch only to stumble over the explosives.

Security agencies led by the DCI continue to urge the public to come forward and share information that can help counter criminal activities and keep the country safe.
