Mystery As DCI Recovers Missing Police Firearm Dumped Inside Nairobi’s CBD Supermarket

A firearm belonging to an officer assigned to a former MP that was allegedly stolen has been discovered at a supermarket on Moi Avenue in Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD), a week after it vanished.

According to a police complaint filed at Central Police Station, the pistol was discovered inside a popular shop in Development House following intelligence-led operations by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).

The firearm was reported missing by the cop, who indicated that he misplaced it while visiting a barber shop and spa on Mukhtar Daddah Street in the CBD.

During the probe, the officer told investigators that he had visited a barber shop and spa at around 4pm, where he requested a complimentary massage.

He reportedly removed his Ceska pistol and placed it under a cushion pillow before the massage session began.

A loaded Ceska pistol stolen from a VIP protection officer inside a Nairobi Spa has been recovered abandoned at Naivas Moi Avenue. The weapon, missing two of its 15 rounds, was found wrapped in a carrier bag.

The officer later felt dizzy and decided to rest at the spa, but when he woke up at around 11pm, he discovered that the firearm was missing.

He said he made efforts to search for the weapon but failed to recover it before formally reporting the matter on May 25.

Investigators said the pistol was found concealed inside a carrier bag that had been stuffed into two additional carrier bags and mixed with fruits at the supermarket’s luggage holding area.

Preliminary investigations established that the firearm was still inside its holster and that its magazine remained intact.

“The firearm and its magazine were intact in its holster, and upon examination, the magazine was found loaded with 13 rounds of 9mm ammunition, which is 2 rounds less than what was earlier reported,” the detectives noted.

CCTV footage reviewed by detectives showed that on May 28, 2026, at about 1:37pm, an unidentified individual whose face was concealed left the firearm at the luggage storage section of the supermarket before leaving.

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) officers processed the scene and secured the firearm as evidence, with the gun now placed in safe custody pending further investigations.

Police have launched efforts to identify and trace the individual captured on CCTV footage, even as the case remains under investigation by DCI officers attached to Central Police Station.
