β€œThe EACC has arrested and arraigned a clerical officer attached to the Uasin Gishu Lands Office over allegations of soliciting and receiving a bribe to facilitate the subdivision of land,” the statement read.

β€œThe case arose from a complaint received by the Commission alleging that the officer had demanded a bribe to facilitate the subdivision process,” the statement added.

“Investigations established that he had solicited Ksh100,000 from the complainant and received part of the bribe.”

After the investigations were completed, the EACC sent the case file to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) for evaluation.

The ODPP subsequently approved the prosecution, paving the way for the officer’s arrest and arraignment in court.

According to EACC, the officer appeared before a court on Monday and was charged with receiving a bribe contrary to the provisions of the Bribery Act, 2016.

During the court proceedings, the officer denied the charge and was granted a cash bail of Ksh30,000 or an alternative bond of Ksh100,000.

The case adds to a series of anti-corruption investigations and prosecutions being undertaken by the commission in a crackdown on public institutions across the country.

A similar case occurred in May when the EACC arrested a Kenya Power employee who allegedly demanded Ksh30,000 bribe to reconnect electricity at a residential property.

Additionally, the arrest comes days after EACC officers recovered Ksh65.3 million in cash after raiding the home of Patrick Analo.

Analo was a senior Nairobi County official attached to the Urban Planning Department and is part of an ongoing corruption investigation.
