Autopsy On Mwingi Mass Grave Victims Reveals Head Injuries, Violent Deaths
Seven remains that were dug up from a possible mass burial in Mwingi, Kitui County, were autopsied, and the results showed that the victims had died violently.
According to the article, several had suffered serious head injuries, while others had been stabbed or strangled.
Johansen Oduor, Chief Government Pathologist, stated on Tuesday that the results of the postmortem exams showed that two of the victims had died from strangulation, while the other two had been fatally stabbed in the belly.
Severe head injuries were discovered on three of the bodies, suggesting that they may have been attacked prior to their deaths.
However, Oduor noted that investigators were unable to determine the exact cause of death for two of the bodies because of the advanced state of decomposition.
Government pathologist Johansen Oduor has confirmed that six of the eight bodies retrieved from a mass grave in Mwingi were murdered, establishing that the unidentified individuals had been dead for at least three months.

“We were unable to establish the cause of death for two of them due to decomposition. Three had stab wounds, with one having head injuries,” Oduor said after the examinations.
The pathologist further disclosed that the identities of all seven victims remain unknown, as no relatives have come forward to claim the bodies since they were recovered.
As a result, the government has continued to hold the remains as investigations into the deaths and the identification process proceed.

He said samples have already been collected and preserved to facilitate DNA matching and sequencing once potential relatives come forward.
In addition to DNA analysis, authorities have collected samples for toxicology examinations to determine whether any chemical substances or toxins may have contributed to the deaths.
The bodies were recovered from a site in Mwingi Town that police suspect may have been used as a dumping ground for murder victims, following a series of similar discoveries in the area over recent weeks.
The case has heightened concern among residents and local leaders, who have called for intensified investigations.
They asked for increased security as authorities work to establish the identities of the victims and trace those responsible for the killings.
