David Maraga Dares Ruto, Other Candidates To Disclose Their Wealth Source
President William Ruto and other presidential contenders have been challenged by United Green Movement (UGM) presidential flagbearer David Maraga to publicly declare their riches and provide an explanation of how they obtained it.
The former Chief Justice stated that he was prepared to take responsibility for his personal fortune during a State of the Nation Address at Ufungamano House on Tuesday. He insisted that he has never been connected to any corruption incident.
He claimed that he would go public and take an oath to account for all of his personal belongings because he had nothing to conceal.
David Maraga: I have never been associated with any corruption scandal. I am ready to declare on oath, my assets and give a full account of how I acquired each piece. I challenge every presidential aspirant, starting with Ruto, to do the same and account for everything they own. pic.twitter.com/IWeq4LCg1b— NTV Kenya (@ntvkenya) June 16, 2026
Maraga continued by urging everyone running for president in 2027 to do the same, starting with President Ruto.

“I challenge every presidential aspirant, starting with Ruto, to do the same and account for everything they own and their proxies,” he stated.
Maraga also took issue with President Ruto’s oft-repeated account of his rise from selling chickens to becoming one of the country’s wealthiest politicians.

The former CJ stated that Kenyans deserve a clearer explanation of how public leaders accumulated their fortunes.
“President Ruto has been telling us he was a chicken seller; let him come and show us how he sold that chicken and got everything that he has…some of us are so daft that we can’t get that,” said Maraga.
Maraga’s remarks come amid growing calls by opposition leaders over transparency, accountability and wealth declarations ahead of the next General Election.
