Murkomen Announces Download, Print Of Birth Certificates Online

The government has announced urgent reforms to the issuance of birth certificates, allowing Kenyans to obtain and print the important document online.

Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen verified the occurrences on Monday, June 22nd.

According to Murkomen, Kenyans can now download and print the paperwork online rather than visiting Huduma centres or other civil registry offices.

The statement comes during a high-level consultative meeting between the State Department for Immigration and Citizen Services and top government officials at Nyayo House in Nairobi to discuss progress on service delivery improvements.

According to Murkomen, the new system is part of broader efforts to streamline access to civil registration documents and reduce the time, cost, and bureaucracy traditionally associated with obtaining them.

Continuous engagement with departments that provide direct services to citizens remains essential in strengthening policy oversight and ensuring efficient service delivery.

“Kenyans can now download and print birth certificates online, a significant step towards improving accessibility and reducing the time required to obtain essential documents,” Murkomen stated.

Previously, applications for birth certificates were the only service available online through the eCitizen portal, but one had to visit the civil registry offices to obtain the document.

Although the CS did not reveal how to obtain the document online and print it, the announcement means that, with internet access, you can now download it and have it at the comfort of your home, as long as you have applied for the document.

The latest developments are part of broader reforms under the public service modernisation agenda, which seeks to digitise government processes, reduce paperwork, and improve access to essential documents for millions of Kenyans.
