“Avoid These ‘Doctors’!” – KMPDU Warns Kenyans, Points Out Disputed Graduates
The Kenya Medical Practitioners, Pharmacists, and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has cautioned the public not to seek treatment from graduates of the disputed dentistry programme.
This comes after the High Court declined to provide interim orders in a case involving dental training standards.
KMPDU issued a notification on Saturday, June 27, citing serious dangers to patient safety and requesting regulatory organizations to crack down on unverified training institutions.
According to the union, it is working to favor locally trained, qualified professionals over inferior trainees who provide services to Kenyans.
COURT REFUSES INTERIM ORDERS: Public Warned Against Unaccredited Dentistry Training
The High Court has dealt a major blow to the Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) by refusing to grant the interim orders it sought regarding dentistry training standards.

“The public is hereby strictly cautioned. Seeking dental services from individuals trained under these compromised, unauthorized conditions poses a severe risk to public health,” KMPDU stated.
“Do not compromise your safety by seeking treatment from unqualified practitioners operating without standard clinical qualifications,” it added.
The warning came after the Milimani Law Court on June 24, 2026, declined to certify as urgent a petition filed by the Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) over the KMPDU’s stance to scrap the dentistry programme from some private universities.
The court ruled that the matter did not warrant ex parte consideration at the first instance.
⚖️ COFEK LEGAL NOTICE | A WORD ON SUB JUDICE RULE & DUE PROCESS
We have noted with grave concern a statement(s) circulating online purporting to characterise — and prejudge — an active matter before the High Court concerning dentistry training standards.
Let us be unequivocal:… pic.twitter.com/pyDsmveFO4— Consumers Federation of Kenya (COFEK) (@Cofek_Kenya) June 27, 2026
The court directed COFEK to serve the petition and its application for conservatory orders on the respondents and interested parties, who have been given 14 days to file their responses before the matter proceeds to a full hearing.
In its statement, KMPDU alleged that COFEK had targeted established institutions, including the University of Nairobi, Moi University and the Kenya Dental Association, while defending a private university that it claimed had not been inspected and lacked the mandatory infrastructure required to train dental surgeons.
The union further alleged that the institution’s dentistry programme was unaccredited. It accused it of relying on outdated and compromised inspection reports to market the course.

In its ruling, the court declined to certify the matter as urgent, directing that all parties be heard before any determination is made on the application for conservatory orders.
However, the court did not make any findings on the accreditation status of the institution or the merits of the allegations raised by either side.
COFEK filed the petition against the Commission for University Education (CUE), the Kenya Dental Association and two other respondents in a dispute touching on dentistry education standards and accreditation.
The issue of fake certification or substandard courses has been an issue in recent days, prompting CUE to warn the public against some institutions.
Recently, the commission published a list of rogue universities and colleges operating in the country, warning parents and students against enrolling in the unaccredited institutions.
