Traffic Paralyzed Along Thika Superhighway After Protests Break Out, Body Found In River
Protesters have blocked the busy Thika Superhighway after a body was discovered floating in Ruiru River near Gwa Kairo Stage on Tuesday, July 14.
The discovery sent shockwaves through the area, with irate boda boda riders erecting barricades on both lanes of the highway.
Traffic came to a complete standstill, with motorists stuck for hours as the crowd swelled around the scene near the river.
Images shared online show the body floating helplessly in the waters below.
Rescuers were spotted battling to retrieve the remains, tying ropes around the bag as they worked to pull it ashore.
The identity of the deceased remains unknown, and police have not yet established the circumstances surrounding the death.
Frustrated commuters were left stranded on the ever-busy highway, watching helplessly as the rescue mission dragged on for hours.
Authorities have not issued a statement regarding the incident as of the time of the publication of this story.

This comes just a week after motorists and commuters using Thika Superhighway experienced similar disruption.
This was after a group of suspected goons reportedly blocked the busy highway near the Pangani area.
Videos shared online on July 3, 2026, showed a crowd gathered on sections of the road, with traffic slowing to a standstill as vehicles remained stranded on both sides of the highway.
According to a statement by the Motorists Association, the road remained blocked for about 15 minutes while police officers at the scene appeared to watch without immediately intervening.
“Goons have blocked Thika Road at Pangani,” the association stated.
