Seth Panyako Quits DAP-K For Ruto’s UDA
Former Democratic Action Party (DAP)-Kenya politician Seth Panyako has announced that he has rejoined President William Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA) barely a year after suffering defeat in the Malava by-election.
In a post shared on Thursday, July 17, Panyako officially declared his political ambition, announcing that he will contest the Malava parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket in the 2027 General Election.
“I will be vying for the Member of Parliament, Malava Constituency, on the UDA Party ticket in the 2027 General Election,” Panyako wrote on his social media accounts.
In his remarks, the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Secretary General also dismissed claims that he had planned to run for a Senate seat, stating that he would not be swayed by what he termed propaganda.
“Those who are claiming that I will be vying for a Senate seat, I want to tell you that that is propaganda,” the vocal politician added.
In a separate post, the politician also hinted at organising a homecoming ceremony soon, to officially declare his political stand ahead of the next general election.
“Homecoming soon. Stay tuned for the official date and venue. Malava people first,” Panyako wrote.
Panyako’s return to UDA marks a dramatic political turnaround after he publicly resigned from the ruling party in May 2023 while serving as its Vice Chairman.

At the time, he announced his resignation, saying the Kenya Kwanza administration led by President William Ruto had failed to honour its key campaign promise of reducing the cost of living.
He argued that the government’s support for the Finance Bill, 2023, as well as the introduction of the housing levy, had abandoned the promises made to voters during the 2022 election campaign.
Panyako said he could no longer defend policies that he believed placed a heavier burden on Kenyans and maintained that his priority was to stand with the people who had elected him.
Following his exit from UDA, he joined Eugene Wamalwa-led DAP-Kenya, becoming one of the opposition figures critical of the Kenya Kwanza administration.
Panyako’s declaration that he will seek the Malava parliamentary seat on a UDA ticket is expected to reshape the political landscape as the country braces for the 2027 General Election.
In November last year, Panyako vied for the Malava parliamentary by-election but narrowly lost to UDA candidate David Ndakwa after garnering 20,210 votes against Ndakwa’s 21,564 votes.
