Family Demands Answers After 21-Year-Old Kin’s Fatal Fall From Apartment

A Kasarani family is seeking answers following the inexplicable death of their 21-year-old daughter, Margaret Wambui, who fell from the 22nd story of the Altura Apartments in Upper Hill, Nairobi.

According to the family, Wambui left home at 7 p.m. on Saturday for her hotel internship but never came.

Later that night, the family received a worrying call from one of her pals, informing them of her whereabouts.

Wambui’s mother, Wangari Gathogo, stated that her daughter’s friend became concerned after several calls went unanswered.

Just then, someone else answered the phone and told her to contact the family and report to the DCI Kilimani headquarters.

Preliminary reports indicate Wambui accessed the apartment building at about 10 pm.

She briefly visited the reception area before proceeding to the rooftop, where she was reportedly taking photographs moments before the fatal fall.

Police later recovered her handbag from the rooftop, containing her mobile phone, work uniform, and other personal belongings, while her body was discovered in a neighbouring building.

The family says the circumstances surrounding her death remain unclear and has ruled out suicide, insisting that investigators establish whether Wambui accidentally fell, was pushed, or whether foul play was involved.

“She told me that she couldn’t reach her and that she felt very uneasy, sensing that her friend was not okay,” Wangari recalled.

“She then told me that when she tried calling Wambui’s phone, it was answered by someone else who told her to look for her family members so they could go to the DCI Kilimani office.”

The incident comes less than a week after a Grade 9 student at CITAM Schools Ngong died after reportedly falling from the rooftop of a school building.

This case also remains under police investigation and has renewed public concern over unexplained fatal falls.

Like the family of the CITAM Schools student, Wambui’s relatives are demanding a thorough investigation into her death.

They said that detectives must establish what happened before her fatal fall and determine whether foul play was involved.

The family has ruled out suicide, maintaining that Wambui had shown no signs of emotional distress.

They described her as someone whose routine largely revolved around home and work, making her death even more difficult to comprehend.

Detectives from Kilimani Police Station are reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence to reconstruct Wambui’s final movements before the incident, with investigators hoping to piece together the events leading to her fall.

Meanwhile, Wambui’s body has been moved to the Nairobi Funeral Home, where a post-mortem examination is expected to provide further clues as investigations continue.

Police have appealed to anyone with information that could assist the investigation to come forward as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding Wambui’s death.
