Parliament Set To Bypass Court Orders Preventing Sossion, Lentoijoni Vetting
The National Assembly has scheduled the approval hearing for Teachers Service Commission (TSC) nominee Wilson Sossion despite existing conservatory orders barring the vetting process.
A notice issued by the Clerk of the National Assembly on Friday, July 31, indicates that the Departmental Committee on Education will vet Sossion and fellow nominee Antonina Lentoijoni on August 11 at 10am and 11:30am, respectively, in the Mini Chamber at Nairobi County Hall.
“It is notified to the general public that pursuant to the provisions of Article 118(1)(b) of the Constitution and section 6(4) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act, Cap. 7F, the Departmental Committees shall conduct Approval Hearings (Vetting) of the nominees on the dates, times and at the venues indicated in the schedule,” the notice stated.
The notice further requires the nominees to appear before the committee with their original identification, academic and professional certificates, and other relevant documents.
The hearings form part of the parliamentary approval process following their nomination by President William Ruto for appointment as TSC commissioners.
The schedule announcement comes a day after the Kerugoya High Court issued conservatory orders stopping the vetting and approval of Sossion and Lentoijoni for 21 days.
The judge barred the National Assembly, its committees and officers from considering or approving the two nominations pending the hearing and determination of the case.
The orders now carry a penal notice warning that any violation would attract serious legal consequences.
In effect, the orders stop the TSC from proceeding with the approval of either nominee pending further directions from the court.

The orders were issued following an application filed against the State Law Office, TSC and three other respondents challenging the appointments made through Notification of Presidential Action No. XI of 2026.
The court directed that the conservatory orders remain in force pending an inter partes hearing scheduled for August 18.
The National Assembly issued the latest notification despite this, explaining that the Speaker referred the nominees’ names and curriculum vitae to the relevant departmental committee after receiving the presidential nominations.
Parliament has also invited members of the public to submit sworn memoranda contesting the suitability of any nominee before the hearings.
Such submissions must be received by the Clerk of the National Assembly by 5pm on August 10, accompanied by supporting evidence.
It remains unclear if the National Assembly will halt the vetting in accordance with the court orders.
