MIGORI: Man Attacked, Killed With A Panga Over Ksh150 Debt

Detectives are investigating an incident where a 49-year-old man died after he was allegedly attacked with a panga during a confrontation over a Sh150 debt in Kuria West, Migori county.

Samuel Nyamohanga Mutundi was allegedly attacked on Friday, August 7, in Bohorera Village.

According to police, Mutundi heard the alleged assailant passing near his homestead and approached him, demanding payment of the money he owed him.

A confrontation reportedly followed, during which the man allegedly used a panga to slash Mutundi on the right hand at the elbow, causing a serious injury.

The suspect fled after the incident, and police said he may also have sustained injuries during the confrontation.

Police visited the scene and later went to the suspect’s home in an attempt to arrest him, but found the homestead deserted.

A blood-stained jacket and pair of trousers were recovered from one of the houses and taken as exhibits.

Mutundi was rushed to Melvan Hospital in Masaba, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

His body was moved to St Akidiva Hospital Mortuary in Mabera pending a postmortem examination.

Police are pursuing the suspect as investigations into the incident continue.

And police in Embu county are investigating the murder of a 24-year-old man who was allegedly stabbed following an argument over payment for loading sand.

Thomas Njiru Ndwiga was found dead in his semi-permanent house in Mbeere South Sub-County on Friday, August 7, 2026.

Police were alerted by his father, who reported that his son had succumbed to injuries sustained during an alleged assault on August 5.

Police visited the scene where they found Njiru lying on a bed with a stab wound to his chest.

Preliminary investigations indicate that an argument had erupted between the deceased and a man who was allegedly demanding payment for loading sand from the Muiru Seasonal River on August 5.

Police recovered a blood-stained kitchen knife suspected to have been used in the killing, as well as blood-stained clothing from the house.

The scene was processed before the body was moved to Embu Level 5 Hospital Mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a postmortem examination.

Police are pursuing the suspect as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the killing continue.
