Elderly Parents Demolish Son’s House Over Land Dispute In Kisii
On Friday, there was drama in Kisii when elderly parents demolished a house belonging to one of their children in a long-running land dispute that has left the family divided down the middle.
The incident occurred in Kiamachongo village, Bobasi sub-county when Arati Momanyi and his wife angrily demolished the mud house after the son allegedly threatened their lives and accused them of witchcraft.
According to the area’s Chief Dickson Omaywa, Mzee Momanyi and his sons have had perennial land boundary disputes, resulting in insecurity in the homestead and village.
The son whose house had been destroyed fled the homestead and could not be reached for comment.
Mzee Momanyi claims that three of his sons have turned against him and want to kill him so that they can inherit his land. The other two sons support him.
“I’m asking the government, is this really okay? Again, when one gets old does it mean they become a witch? Why have they turned against me and their mother? Why do they want to chase me away from my land?” Momanyi questioned.
