ACCIDENT ALERT! Head-On Collision Takes Boda Boda Rider’s Life in Kirinyaga
On Saturday night, a motorcycle taxi (boda boda) rider died on the spot after colliding with a matatu near Gwa Kariba on the Mwea-Embu highway in Kirinyaga County.
According to witnesses, the rider was heading towards Mwea from Embu and was attempting to overtake another vehicle when he left his lane and collided with the matatu.
“The rider decided to overtake and landed on the matatu, there was a traffic snarl-up as there was another accident 500 meters away from here,” said Loise Wawira, a resident.
Another witness, Allan Muriithi, stated that the deceased is not known in the village.
The accident caused a traffic jam as vehicles attempted to navigate the steep section of the road near the accident site.
Traffic officers from Wanguru police, who arrived immediately, took the body to the Embu Level Five hospital mortuary.
The police also towed the motorcycle and matatu to the Wang’uru Police Station.
Mwea-East Sub-County Police Patrick Nyaanga stated that no passengers on the Meru-bound matatu were injured.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
This tragic event serves as a reminder of the dangers that road users face, as well as the importance of following traffic rules to avoid similar incidents.
The deceased’s identity has not yet been released, pending notification of their next of kin.
