Gachagua Defends Ex-CS Linturi After Incompetence Reports, Says ‘Didn’t Fail To Perform’

Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has now stated that former Agriculture and Livestock Development Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi was not fired for incompetence.

Speaking on Sunday, Gachagua said the former CS exceeded expectations at the ministry.

The DP insisted that he worked with Linturi alongside President William Ruto and can attest to his efforts.

“Linturi is our great son and I want to say that as Deputy President, Linturi performed beyond expectations,” Gachagua said.

“He just got caught up in this reorganisation because of the political dynamics of the country, not because he failed to perform. I worked with him and the President, and Linturi our son worked as he was expected to.”

The Deputy President urged the former CS to remain optimistic that a worthwhile opportunity would soon open up for him.

“I want to encourage you, there’s always a God of a second chance na hakuna mlango Mungu anafunga bila kufungua ingine.”

The DP spoke at the Methodist Church of Kenya’s Centennial celebration in Mikumbune.

He was accompanied by several leaders, including Mwiti Shadrack, MP for the area, and Patrick Kilemi, PS State Department for Cooperatives.

Women leaders from Meru and Tharaka Nithi, as well as Nominated MP Dorothy Muthoni Ikiara, were also in attendance.

Maara MP Kareke Mbiuki, Murang’a Senator Joe Nyutu, former Meru County Governor Kiraitu Murungi, former CS Mithika Linturi, and area MCA Koome Makasi were among those in attendance.

Linturi was one of at least 11 CS dismissed from Ruto’s first Cabinet on July 11, 2024, when he announced the dissolution of the entire Cabinet.

Linturi’s tenure was marred by a variety of fortunes. While there were victories, allegations of fake fertilizer marred his tenure as CS.
