This is not the first time such an incident has occurred along the same stretch.
In a similar incident in June last year, a group of Al-Shabaab militants attacked a bus on the Wajir-Madera highway.
The gang of about 15 fired shots into the air, forcing the driver to stop and then ordering all passengers to exit. During the incident, 55 passengers escaped unscathed.
Survivors who spoke to journalists afterward revealed that the attack took place in the Bore area, about six kilometers from the Tarbaj Trading Centre in Wajir County.
