Police Officer Rushed To Hospital After Mobile Phone Explodes In His Pocket

A police officer stationed in Mathioya, Murang’a County, was injured after his mobile phone caught fire while en route to Kinangop, Nyandarua County, on Thursday morning.

According to a police report obtained by AfricasNow, at 9:53 a.m., Police Constable Simon Chepkirwok was one of four officers heading to Kinangop from Mathioya for official duty.

Before they arrived at their destination, Chepkirwok’s phone in his left front trouser pocket caught fire and burned him on the left thigh.

Following the incident, the officer was rushed to Kenol Hospital, where he received medical treatment before being discharged hours later in stable condition.

“It has been reported by Cpl John Anyimo, PC Simon Chepkirwok, PC Wilson Nyaga and PC (d ) Cornelius Kemboi all of DCI Mathioya, that while they were travelling from Mathioya to Kinangop on official duty…the mobile phone ‘make; Techno BF1’ the property of PC Simon Chepkirwok which was in his left front trouser pocket burst in flames and burnt him on the left thigh,” the report read in part.

The mobile phone has since been retrieved for further investigation.
