Kericho County Mourns Politician’s Death, Body Found Inside His House
Police in Kericho County have launched an investigation into the death of former Kipchimchim Ward Member of County Assembly Benard Mutai.
Mutai was reportedly found dead inside his home on Thursday evening in Taiwet Sub-location, Ainamoi Sub-County.
While confirming the tragic event, Taiwet Sub-location Assistant Chief Philemon Kosei stated that the deceased’s body was discovered inside his bedroom.
According to reports, the politician could have killed himself. However, police officers stated that investigations were already underway to determine the underlying cause of the incident.

Mutai served for two terms 2013-2022 in Kericho County Assembly
Benard Mutai was Kipchimchim MCA for two terms from 2013 until 2022 when he resigned.
Locals who mourned Mutai described him as a passionate and dedicated leader who worked tirelessly for Kipchimchim residents.
The death of the former MCA, nicknamed ‘Surveyor’ by the locals, has left many wondering what prompted his decision to commit suicide.
The Kericho tragedy occurred just a week after Lamu Deputy Governor Raphael Munyua Ndung’u died from illness.
Raphael Ndung’u became Lamu’s Deputy Governor after successfully running on a joint Amani National Congress (ANC) ticket with Governor Issa Timmy.
While mourning the death of his deputy, Governor Issa Timamy referred to Munyua as a colleague, a close friend, a brother, and a dedicated servant of the Lamu people.
“To his dear wife Stella Tayo Ndung’u, his children, family and friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing him, we extend our deepest condolences on my behalf, my family, the County Government of Lamu, and the People of Lamu,” Timamy stated.
“We share in your grief and offer our prayers for comfort during this difficult time.”
