Members of 2NK Deposit Taking (DT) Sacco were overcome with grief and shock following the death of a board member, Godfrey Gachoki Wairia, on Friday night.

The announcement came after Wairia attended the Sacco’s annual general meeting (AGM) on Friday at the ACK Hall in Nyeri town.

Gachoki had spent the majority of the day prior to his death attending a special general meeting hosted by the Sacco.

His colleagues, who had spent the day with him at the meeting, were taken aback by his death because he was so upbeat.

In a tribute, the Sacco praised Gachoki for his enormous contribution as well as the matatu industry, where his influence extended.

Following his untimely death, 2NK DT Sacco expressed their condolences to the deceased’s family on their official Facebook page, noting that Gachoki played an important role in the organization’s growth.

“We are deeply saddened to announce the passing on of our longtime board member, Mr. Godfrey Gachoki Wairia,” the Sacco shared in a statement on Saturday.

“Wairia suddenly passed on yesterday night after actively participating in a successful Sacco Special General meeting.”

Members and colleagues remembered the deceased as a wise leader who made significant contributions to the Sacco’s growth.

The untimely death of the board member has left a leadership void in the Sacco, but his legacy of servant leadership will live on.

The cause of his death has yet to be determined, but the immediate family will provide additional information about funeral arrangements.

Members resolved at the AGM to limit individual members’ vehicle ownership to a maximum of five vehicles and phase out older models by the end of 2024.
