βOur exchange focused on the next steps of the Nairobi Process as well as the way forward to ensure a closer coordination between the Nairobi and Luanda Processes,β the UN official said in a post.
In July 2022, the EAC Heads of State chose Uhuru as a facilitator and tasked him with championing peace and overseeing the implementation of the Nairobi Process.
This role demands him to mediate discussions between opposing groups, promote dialogue, and develop consensus on long-term peace options.
In addition to mediating peace negotiations, Uhuru is in charge of monitoring and evaluating the progress of the Nairobi Process.

This includes reviewing adherence to agreed-upon parameters, identifying potential issues, and offering corrective actions to keep the process on track.
Uhuru is also responsible for establishing and managing a special fund.
This Fund is intended to offer the financial resources required to carry out peace-building activities such as mediation sessions, community involvement programs, and capacity-building efforts.
On September 28, Uhuru was appointed to the board of the Tana High-Level Forum on Security in Africa.

Back home, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, who is under impeachment, has gone to Uhuru, a friend turned foe, for political assistance, identifying him as the unchallenged kingpin of the Mt. Kenya area.
However, the former president has avoided the political arena, preferring to remain silent.
