Ruto Hits At DP Gachagua For The First Time Since Impeachment Inception

On Friday, President William Ruto strongly condemned leaders who promote divisive politics in the country.

Ruto appeared to point an accusing finger at impeached Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua while speaking at a roadside rally in Lodwar, Turkana County.

“We don’t have any business with leaders dividing Kenyans based on ethnic lines,” he said while referring to East African Community (EAC) and ASAL Areas Cabinet Secretary Beatrice Askul.

“I formed a government to unite all Kenyans. Was that a mistake? There are people who are angry because I appointed Beatrice Askul as a CS.”

President Ruto stated that the move to appoint leaders from the opposition to form a broad-based government was met with strong opposition from some quarters, implying that the rebuttal came from Gachagua’s camp.

From the outside, it appears that President Ruto and Gachagua have been engaged in a lengthy supremacy battle, which has resulted in a total breakdown in their relationship.

This feud has culminated in Rigathi’s impeachment by the National Assembly, a move that was upheld by the Senate.

Gachagua has strongly condemned his ouster, claiming that the charges against him were motivated by a political witch hunt rather than holding his leadership abilities accountable.

The embattled Gachagua has lamented the State’s treatment of him and openly accused President Ruto of ruthlessly plotting his downfall.

“I don’t understand this kind of viciousness towards a man who has been your deputy, who has helped you become president, irrespective of whatever he has done,” he stated.

“At his lowest moment in life, when he is literally struggling to stay alive.”

The events following Gachagua’s ouster have demonstrated that there is no end to this war, as both the State and Gachagua remain unyielding.

Currently, the two parties are embroiled in a lengthy legal battle as Gachagua fights his removal from office and the appointment of his replacement, Interior CS Prof. Kithure Kindiki.

For a long time, the President had remained silent on the events surrounding Gachagua’s impeachment and the ensuing debate, which gripped the entire country. However, it appears that the gloves are off.
