The Wajir County Assembly, along with 46 other county assemblies, has issued a warning that House sittings may be adjourned within the next seven days if the missing Della Anole Ward MCA Yussuf Hussein Ahmed is not found.

The MCA was abducted 49 days ago, on September 13, 2024, along Enterprise Road in Nairobi’s Industrial Area, and his colleagues believe he was taken in by the state for unknown reasons.

“This incident has created fear among the Members of County Assemblies,” County Assemblies Forum (CAF) Chair Philemon Sabulei said.

Wajir Speaker Abdinoor Yussuf stated: “The threat to one of us is a threat to all of us.”

CAF has now issued a seven-day deadline for Ahmed’s release, warning that failure to comply will result in the halting of county assembly meetings.

“Our demand to the government is very simple: produce Hon. Yusuf,” Speaker Yussuf added.

The forum believes Ahmed is currently in state custody. Prior to his disappearance on September 13, he had complied with a summons from security agencies in Wajir, just four days before he went missing.

“The last communication and discussion is around police,” Makueni County Assembly Speaker Daglus Mbilu said.

Law Society of Kenya (LSK) Vice Chair Kabata Mwaura added, “It is our belief that the member is still alive.”

This comes as Ambassadors and High Commissioners have expressed concern about arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearances, despite judicial rulings.

In a joint statement, the envoys emphasized the importance of upholding the rule of law and following the decisions of the judiciary.
