Details Of Ruto’s Call With President-elect Trump, Haiti Mission Priority
President William Ruto has had his first call with US President-Elect Donald Trump, amid concerns in the country about the level of influence exercised by Meg Whitman, the US ambassador to Kenya.
Ruto took to his official X on Friday, November 7, revealing that the two had an open talk in which he updated the US President-Elect on various topics of shared interest.
His call with the US president-elect comes only a day after he spoke with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken.
Blinken had challenged him to improve security in Kenya and combat the rising number of abductions.
According to Ruto, the two talked about commerce, investment, and development. Ruto also took the opportunity to formally congratulate Trump on his victory.
I have had a telephone conversation with US President-Elect @realDonaldTrump. I congratulated him following his election as the 47th President of the United States of America. We discussed areas of mutual interest that are of benefit to the citizens of our two countries,…

“I have had a telephone conversation with US President-Elect Donald Trump,” President Ruto revealed.
“We discussed areas of mutual interest that are of benefit to the citizens of our two countries, including trade and investment, security, and good governance.”
Ruto also informed Trump about Kenya’s peace mission in Haiti, expressing hope that the two countries will continue to engage on the mission.
“I briefed President Trump on the Kenya-led Multinational Security Support Mission in Haiti and possible areas of cooperation with the US government on this important conflict resolution initiative,” Ruto continued.
This has been a difficult subject, and on Friday, DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa urged President-elect Trump to stop Kenya’s involvement in the operation and enable police personnel to return.
Kenya’s presence in Haiti demonstrates its growing importance in international peacekeeping efforts.
Ruto invited Trump to explore new areas of partnership in Kenya’s peacekeeping mission, which was formed with UN support to combat violence and instability in the Caribbean.
Trump, a Republican, won the election this week by gaining enough electoral votes to seal a remarkable comeback to the White House after four years away, defeating Democratic Vice President Kamala Harris.

The call strengthened Kenya’s long-standing connections with the United States, with the leaders pledging to further economic and security collaborations, particularly as Kenya strives to grow trade and attract more American investment.
In a call with Secretary Blinken on Thursday, the US Secretary of State highlighted the significance of complete responsibility for security personnel accused of violently quelling protesters earlier this year, as well as continued abductions.
He pushed Ruto to continue engaging Kenyan young in policy matters following the Gen Z protests that highlighted the importance of accountability among leaders.
Despite the US power transfer, the call with Blinken and the most recent call with Trump demonstrates a renewed emphasis on Kenya’s close connection with the US.
