The family of Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta is mourning the loss of his brother-in-law, William Maina Gakuo.

“It is with deep sorrow and humble acceptance of God’s will that we announce the passing of William Gakuo,” an obituary from a local daily dated Saturday, November 9, stated.

Gakuo is the brother of Uhuru’s wife, Margret Kenyatta.

He was married to Sheila Wanjiku Mwangi and uncle of the late Noni, Jomo and Achola, Lena and Bulisa, Ngina and Alex, and Muhoho and Chizi.

According to the obituary, the former president’s family will gather at the late Gakuo’s Karen house on Saturday, November 9, and Sunday, November 10, to prepare for the funeral.

“The service will be on Tuesday, November 12 at 10:00 am at the Hindu crematorium followed by cremation,” the statement read in part.

By the time this article was published, the cause of his death had not been made public.

Although Gakuo kept a low profile, sources indicated that he was the conduit between former President Kenyatta and his wife Margaret Kenyatta.

It is said that Uhuru met Margaret through her brother Gakuo, which led to their long-term marriage. He was Margaret’s only sibling, and they had an amazing resemblance.

Gakuo and Uhuru attended the same school, St Mary’s High School, where he met Margaret by chance, and their love stars began to align.

“I first met her brother. We went to the same secondary school and quickly became friends,” Uhuru stated in a past social media interactive session.

“It was through him that I managed to meet his younger sister and we started a relationship that has lasted from high school until now. I am thankful to God for that.”

Gakuo’s influence led Uhuru to marry his sister at the Holy Family Basilica in 1989.
