Slain Journalist’s Boyfriend Arrested In Tharaka Nithi
On Friday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended George Mutegi, the primary suspect in the death of his girlfriend Lilian Aluko, in Kahawa West, Nairobi County.
According to the police report, the suspect fled to Kaanwa Trading Centre in Tharaka Nithi after committing the crime at his Kahawa West residence on November 1, 2024.
The pair is thought to have argued after a night out on the fateful night.
The disagreement became physical, with the culprit allegedly stabbing his partner with a kitchen knife, causing her death.
The suspect, who was apprehended on Friday night, is being held at Kasarani Police Station for processing and arraignment in court.

George Mwenda Mutegi, the prime suspect in the monstrous murder of Ms Lilian Achieng Aluko has been arrested after days of scrupulous manhunt. Mutegi was smoked out of his hideaway at Kaanwa area of Tharaka Nithi county.

Aluko’s friends characterized her as a passionate and kind-hearted girl who was kind by nature. She was a radio host for a local station in Kahawa West.

“She was presenting for Radio 44, which is in Kahawa West. She was a very good girl. We’ve lost her in the hands of someone whom she really loved,” Lilian Odingo, Aluko’s friend told Citizen TV.
The victim’s family has also questioned the motive behind their loved one’s terrible death, urging police to move investigations forward quickly.
“I am heartbroken because she has been taken too soon. What we wish is justice for her and we ask for Kenyans to pray for Aluko’s family because it’s not something easy to handle,” Diane Aluko, the victim’s sister, stated.
