Police Officer Apprehended For Killing 1, Injuring 2 In An Embu Bar

Police in Runyenjes, Embu County, are investigating a terrible occurrence involving an officer from the Nthagaiya Police Post.

On Saturday night, the cop allegedly shot and killed one man while injuring another at a renowned Ugweri Market establishment.

The incident apparently began when the police and a colleague entered Vision Joint and sought to remove customers.

According to witnesses, the move enraged several of the revellers who protested him. The revelers stated that this spurred him to start firing.

The move prompted other revelers to flee for their safety. A second person was shot and hurt in the neck.

According to the deceased’s mother, Catherine Nyaga, the officer shot her son, 43-year-old Ephantus Muriithi Nyaga, in the head, causing his immediate death.

Catherine reports that both officers appeared inebriated at the time of the incident.

Meanwhile, the second victim was transported to Embu Level 5 Hospital and is currently suffering from a neck injury.

Ephantus Muriithi’s body has been transported to the hospital mortuary while investigations continue.

The two officers were disarmed and detained pending a probe.

Local residents have demanded justice for the shooting. Cases of police wrongdoing have increased. Police claim they are isolated and should not be used to evaluate the service.
