‘Do Not Expect Juicy Stories!’ – Martha Karua Opens Up On Her ‘Failed Marriage’

Martha Karua, the Narc Kenya party leader, has opened up about her personal life, revealing her failed marriage and the difficulties of parenting two children as a single mother.

Her forthright statements occurred during a Citizen TV interview on Sunday, November 17, 2024, to promote her biography, ‘Against the Tides,’ which covers her life and legacy.

When asked directly about her status as a single mother, Karua reacted with characteristic candor.

“You are a single mother?” Karua was asked.

“Yes, of two. I have already pledged into life as a single mother,” she responded.

Karua dug into the reality of life after marriage, noting that not all separations are dramatic.

Karua vehemently denied any attempts to sensationalize her broken marriage, claiming that there are no juicy stories about her history.

“If you are expecting juicy stories about that, no. Every marriage does become rocky because any disagreement can graduate to a big disagreement. It’s up to you to know the good time to walk out,” she said.

Karua’s Political Life

Karua also described how her opponents used her marital status against her during political campaigns.

Reflecting on the incident, she recalled how naysayers unsuccessfully attempted to use her married status against her.

“By the way I campaigned as Martha Njoka. And because my marital status was an issue during elections, I decided to show my detractors a bit of style,” Karua revealed.

“So immediately we were elected, I did the papers for change of name, got it gazetted. I was sworn in three weeks into January as Martha Karua. And that was it.”

Balancing her political career and parenting two children was not a simple task, but Karua credited her resilience to her background.

“I think women are brought up to multitask. That’s why you will see a woman carrying firewood on the back, a child, a jerrycan of water, and something else,” she remarked.

“You see her carrying all that, then at home, she will do so many things.”

Karua’s observations underlined the strength needed to face personal and professional problems. She also emphasized the value of self-determination in pursuing her goals.
