Varsity Student Presented In Court Over Bogus X-Post About President Ruto
On Monday, a university student was charged with publishing false information at the Milimani Law Courts for posting a photograph of a funeral procession with misleading comments.
According to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), the defendant, David Oaga Mokaya, allegedly uploaded the image on his X (previously Twitter) account, “Landlord @bozgabi,” on November 13, 2024, stating it was of President William Ruto being carried.
A University student was today charged at the Milimani Law Courts with publishing false information by posting an image of a funeral procession featuring a casket covered with the Kenyan flag escorted by military officers in ceremonial uniform.

The court was informed that the photograph, which showed a casket wrapped in the Kenyan flag and carried by military officers dressed in ceremonial clothes, was created to give the false impression that it featured the President.
The accused is accused of forging the date and other information to make the post appear authentic.

Mokaya, who had pleaded not guilty to allegations of disseminating false information, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Benmark Ekhumbi.
The prosecution emphasized the gravity of the offense, which breaches legislation intended to prevent the spread of disinformation and protect public order.
The court awarded Mokaya a KSh 100,000 bond or KSh 50,000 cash bail. The matter has been set for a hearing on December 4, 2024, where further processes will take place.
