Kenya’s Oversees Job Recruitment Paused As Exercise Marred With Fraud
On Wednesday, November 27, Labour Cabinet Secretary (CS) Alfred Mutua declared that nationwide recruitment for foreign job opportunities will be temporarily halted until mid-December.
Speaking at Nyandarua National Polytechnic, CS Mutua said that the break was necessary to prepare for the Jamhuri Day celebrations on December 12.

“As we continue with this journey, the recruitment drive will take a brief pause to accommodate preparations for the upcoming Jamhuuri Day celebrations,” Mutua said in a statement.
Mutua justified the brief halt by stating that the Jamhuri Day topic for 2024, ‘Labour Migration, Entrepreneurship, and Entertainment’, was in line with the ministry’s role.
He also stated that 5931 positions had already been obtained in the 10 days that the exercise had been held.

He added that the administration will use the break to process the offers by expediting the issuing of passports and certificates of good conduct.
New dates for the resumption of the exercise will be announced following Jamhuri Day. Mutua also guaranteed all successful candidates that they would be contacted on Wednesday, December 4.
The recruiting campaign, which is scheduled to take place in all 47 counties, has already covered six counties, including Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Nakuru, Nyandarua, and Baringo. The initial phase will be completed in 31 counties.
A few weeks ago, 3,247 applications were successful in Nairobi’s employment recruitment, which aimed to obtain positions for 20,000 Kenyans in Qatar, Europe, Canada, and Australia.

Mutua however shut the claim down stating, βThe agencies here are now working under my watch. Nobody will extort any Kenyan citizen for jobs when I am the Labour CS.”
