MP Forced To Suspend Hearse Services, Accused Of Promoting Death

Rabai Member of Parliament Kenga Mupe has announced the cessation of free hearse and hospital transportation in his area.

This, he claimed, was owing to the allegations that the services were encouraging death in the area.

Speaking at an event on Sunday, the MP claimed that starting in January 2025, the services will be withdrawn for six months to measure citizens’ reactions before deciding whether to reinstate them or discontinue them entirely.

“Starting January 1, all the hospital transportation services I had provided for the sick and the deceased will be suspended for six months until I can figure out a way forward,” the MP stated.

Over the last two years, the MP has provided free transportation to residents via TeamChapaKazi pick-up vehicles in order to reduce their hospital expenditures.

Taking to his Facebook page, he explained that after receiving a lot of criticism from people, he and the stakeholders who operated the TeamChapaKazi initiative agreed that it was important to evaluate the path forward.

Meanwhile, Joseph Lengarie, the deputy county commissioner who was there, issued a harsh warning to chiefs who hosted disco matanga activities at funerals in their administrative regions.

“If you are a chief whose area is still hosting Disco Matangas, I will start writing you up in January and if that reaches the ministry in Nairobi, I am sending you home,” he told the congregation.

He described the events as a breeding ground for teen pregnancies, alcohol and substance misuse, and even gender-based violence.
