A Nairobi court acquitted Private Detective Jane Mugo of threatening to shoot a businessman.

The court ruled that the prosecution failed to prove its case against the renowned spy.

Susan Shitubi, the senior main magistrate, found that the prosecution failed to prove its case against Mugo.

The court found contradictions in the testimonies of the two witnesses produced by the prosecution.

Shitubi discovered that the purported pistol was not retrieved when police raided Mugo’s home.

She stated that the inconsistency of witnesses who were not cross-examined left the court unsure who to believe, leaving only the choice of accepting the defence side.

Why Is Jane Mugoh In Court?

Mugoh, an outspoken investigator who studied criminology at Kenyatta University and received more advanced training at the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), where she worked as an undercover agent, operates her own investigative firm, Trimo Security Limited.

The company provides undercover, private investigation, civil and criminal debt collection, and security services, as reported by The Star.

Mugoh fell out with certain police officers because of her employment, and they accused her of being a serial criminal, including detaining a businessman and robbing them of KSh 400,000.

Her confrontation with detectives, who accused her of being a criminal and whom she believed were renegade cops working for oppressors, resulted in her incarceration and anonymous threats, but this never stopped her from performing her duties.

Mugoh raised a stir in court in 2022 when she claimed that some people who wanted to abduct and kill her were present when she was being arraigned.

She informed Chief Magistrate Susan Shitubi that she had been kidnapped and tortured on November 24, 2021, by kidnappers who were still at large.
