‘I Respect Raila But I Will Not Leave In Fear!’ – Babu Owino Declares

Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has stated that he is not frightened to leave the Orange Democratic Movement party.

He stated this despite facing threats from certain members of the Orange Party for refusing to support President William Ruto.

The ODM party, led by Raila Odinga, reached an agreement with the government, culminating in the inclusion of some of his lieutenants in the Kenya Kwanza Cabinet, which is widely regarded with quelling the Gen Z-led anti-government rallies.

Babu stated that he has made it clear to Raila that he will not support an administration that he believes is unfair to the people, which he claims has been the basis of his problems.

However, the MP stated that he is not worried of being kicked out of the party and will not live in terror of the situation.

“I was campaigning for Raila but I told Baba that I will not support a government that is unfair to the people of Kenya. I was told I have ‘grown horns’ and I will be chased away in 2027.

“I’m not afraid of being kicked out of ODM. Even if they chase me away from the party, is there a problem?” he posed.

“Should I live in fear because of threats that I will be chased away in 2027?”

Babu addressed an assembly of his constituents in Mihang’o, Kayole.

In a video obtained by AfricasNow, the MP stated that he was voted by the citizens of Embakasi East and that only God picks leaders.

“I came to this town from Nyalenda (Kisumu) and it is you people who elected me with God’s guidance. It is God who chooses leaders.”

The member stated that he still respects the former Prime Minister because he is his political mentor.

He also urged all Kenyans to support Raila’s aspiration to become the next African Union Commission chairperson.

Babu stated that while Raila has problems, he also has strengths, and it is crucial for Kenyans to pray for him to get the seat.

“We will not fear anyone and we will respect Raila Odinga as our political father,” he stressed.

“He has tried so hard and now we want God to bless him to become the AUC chairman so he can also live in peace. He has his strengths and weaknesses but let us pray for him as one of us.”
