Police Shoots, Lobs Teargas At Gachagua Event In Nyandarua
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua faced yet another hostile environment on his latest outing on Saturday, December 28.
Gachagua, who has been outspoken against the Kenya Kwanza Government since his impeachment in October, was forced to flee with his envoy during a thanksgiving service for Shamata Ward MCA Gitau Njamba in Nyandarua County.
The celebration took a wrong turn when Nyandarua Senator John Methu addressed the gathering before being interrupted by a commotion.

Images and videos shared online, reveal an upset mob challenging the police, who then fired tear gas and live bullets to disperse the throng.

Another video showed the bishop desperately attempting to quiet the crowd, which insisted that the cops leave the event.
Gachagua spoke shortly after the pandemonium in Nyandarua, claiming that he would continue to fight for Kenyan rights despite apparent government harassment.
The former Deputy President also accused a local Member of Parliament in Nyandarua of masterminding the attempt to disrupt the prayer service.
Gachagua also chastised authorities at the event, accusing them of escalating the commotion by firing a teargas canister, which exacerbated confusion.

“I want to tell our officers please, right now. You’re saying that a civilian threw a tear gas canister at us,” Gachagua alleged.
“Where did they get it from? You came here pretending to ensure security yet you are teargassing people.”
In the run-up to the commotion, Senator Methu intimated that some forces were determined to prevent the event from taking place since Gachagua would be present.

“People were saying this event would not happen, but it did,” the Senator said. “Regardless of what the President does to us, we will keep praying.”
Since his impeachment, Gachagua has been working hard to rally Kenyans’ support, particularly in Central Kenya.
His most recent brush with controversy occurred just a month after goons disrupted another Limuru ceremony at which he was present.
Following the incident in which his convoy was assaulted with stones and chairs, Gachagua boldly claimed that an assassination conspiracy was underway against him.
