Cartoonist Kibet Bull Still Missing As FOUR Abductees Freed

Four of the abducted victims were released on Monday morning. The families of Billy Mwangi, Peter Muteti, Bernard Kavuli and Rony Kiplangat said their kin had reached out to them.

Billy walked to his Embu home after being abandoned in Nyeri, around 60 miles away. He had been absent for around 15 days.

It is unclear who was behind the abduction, but his family has linked it to his criticism of the administration. The family of Billy felt relieved.

Photos circulated online of him comforting a relative at their Majengo house in Embu.

This comes as human rights advocates plan a rally against kidnapping and forced disappearance.

Protests were scheduled on Monday, January 6 in a variety of locations.

Muteti was likewise liberated by his captors in Nairobi and made his way home.

On December 21, he was abducted outside an apartment in Nairobi in response to social media posts he made.

The protest organizers claimed that the decision to release Billy and Muteti was intended to deflate the plans for the marches, and they urged additional pressure and people to come out to reject the trend.

According to officials, Rony Kiplangat was located in Machakos County, and Bernard Kavuli, who was kidnapped in Ngong, was discovered in Kitale.

They were having difficulty communicating with their relatives.

Peter Muteti was discovered in Nairobi’s central business district, and witnesses reported that he was disoriented and was currently recovering at home.

The location of cartoonist Kibet Bull, the brother of Rony remains unknown.

His family stated they had only heard from Kibet’s brother, Rony Kiplangat, who went missing before the cartoonist’s abduction.

Steve Mbisi, who was also reported missing, has yet to be found. At least seven more people are still missing following their kidnapping.

Police were stationed throughout Nairobi and other urban areas to address concerns about planned protests.

Over the last six months, parents have become increasingly concerned about their children disappearing without a trace.

According to the Kenya National Commission on Human Rights, at least 82 abductions have occurred since June of last year, when youngsters flocked to the streets to protest Finance Bill 2024.

At least 13 occurrences of abduction were registered in the last three months of 2024, with seven occurring in December alone, according to the Commission.
