Ruto-Biden Joint Press And Other 7 Key Meetings For Kenya’s President In The US

On Sunday, State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed disclosed that President William Ruto’s visit to the United States will include more than just meeting with his counterpart Joe Biden. 

The visit will begin on May 20 in Atlanta, Georgia and conclude on Friday, May 24 in Washington, DC, with the President receiving a briefing at the Pentagon.

I) Kenya-US Commitment

In Atlanta, the President will begin his tour at the Carter Presidential Library and Museum, where he will highlight the two countries’ shared commitment to governance, democratic ideals, and anti-corruption measures.

II) Civil Rights Correlation

According to Mohamed, Ruto will later visit Ebenezer Baptist Church to pay tribute to the civil rights movement. 

III) CDC-KEMRI Partnership

Still in Atlanta, Ruto will pay a visit to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to launch a new CDC-KEMRI relationship. 

IV) Kenyans In The US

In the evening, he will be hosted by Kenyans in the diaspora and will discuss his vision for nationals working overseas. 

On Tuesday, May 21, President William Ruto will visit Spelman College, emphasizing the importance of higher education, before visiting Tyler Perry Studios to explore prospects in the creative industries. 

V) The Coca-Cola Visit

Ruto will then visit the Coca-Cola headquarters before being invited for dinner by Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed in the evening. 

VI) The Congressional Meeting

On Wednesday, May 22, Ruto will travel to Washington, DC, where he will be greeted with full ceremonial honours. 

“Ruto will then have an audience with a bipartisan congressional delegation led by House Speaker Mike Johnson,” Mohamed explained. 

He stated that Ruto would then meet with the black congressional caucus, followed by a senate caucus. 

Ruto will inform the legislators on climate change and Kenya’s leadership’s response to its negative impacts. 

On Thursday, Ruto will lay a wreath at Arlington National Cemetery before meeting with US President Joe Biden. 

During the bilateral encounter, the two leaders will explore deeper into Kenya-US relations, particularly the economy, security, and health partnership. 

VII) Ruto-Biden Joint Press Brief

Ruto and Biden will then attend a joint press briefing at the White House before being invited to a State Dinner. 

On his penultimate day in the United States, President William Ruto will be hosted for breakfast by the US Chamber of Commerce, where the two countries will discuss trade, investment, and digital cooperation. 

VIII) Ruto-Harris Meet-Up

Later, he will attend a digital roundtable meeting sponsored by US Vice President Kamala Harris to explore the possibility of strengthening the US-Kenya digital collaboration. 

Ruto’s final event in the United States will be a visit to the Pentagon, where he will showcase the Kenya-US defense relationship, particularly in the fight against terrorism, extremism, and cybersecurity.
