Angry Youths Attack Police Officers During Crackdown In Bungoma

Police officers from Bungoma County were subjected to mob justice by angry youths in Musole village after a crackdown mission failed to meet expectations.

According to a police report obtained by AfricasNow, the two officers, dressed in civilian attire and unarmed, drove by the home of a resident suspected of dealing in illegal brew.

The report indicated that the officers’ intentions were unclear because they had not been directed to carry out the mission by their superiors.

The two officers stormed through the suspect’s house in an attempt to locate those involved in the vice.

However, the suspect wailed, alarming the nearby residents who crowded his homestead.

Armed with crude weapons, the enraged youths overpowered the two officers and beat them to a pulp.

Another resident called police officers from the Mayanja and Bungoma Police Stations, who rushed to the scene to help their colleagues.

The police officers who arrived as backup were able to drive the angry mob away and restore order at the suspect’s homestead, saving the two officers’ lives in the process.

According to the report, the officers sustained severe injuries to their limbs, which were suspected to be caused by blunt objects.

A good Samaritan rushed them to Nabuala Hospital, where they were admitted. They are now in stable condition.

One of the police officers investigating the case advised all law enforcement officials to always be armed when conducting any mission to avoid such instances.

“Commanders, Officers when visiting such places should be of proper strength and well armed. The possibility of being attacked is ever there,” he stated.
