Governor Comes Out To Describe A Narrow Escape From Assassination Attempt
Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has revealed that he almost avoided an assassination attempt in Thika on Friday evening.
Wamatangi claimed he was the target of a shooting that took place during a disorderly market opening ceremony in Kamenu Ward.
He explained that the assassination plot was in place since the perpetrators expected him to attend the occasion.
Wamatangi further linked the disruption to earlier verbal attacks on his leadership, claiming that there were plans to remove him.
“I know all those things that have been done, have been targeting me. I know they had come ready thinking that I would be at Kiganjo,” stated Wamatangi.
The incident occurred when two political opposing groups clashed, apparently over the allotment of market stalls at the intended market site.
According to police, one of the MPs was suspected of shooting at the crowd indiscriminately as demonstrations broke out.
During the incident in Kamenu ward, a 26-year-old man was killed and another was critically injured by a bullet stuck in his chest.
Four Members of Parliament attended the occasion, including MP Alice Ng’ang’a, who spearheaded the introduction of the market alongside Ichung’wa (Kikuyu), Gabriel Kagombe (Gatundu South), Elijah Njoroge (Gatundu North), and Ngoliba Ward MCA Joachim Njama.
However, following the incident, Kagombe claimed that the Governor had hired goons to disrupt the event at which he was hurt.
“It is extremely sad that an elected governor can use an MCA to send goons to attack members of parliament on duty bringing development to the people of Kiambu. It is even worse that in the ensuing altercation, I and other residents were injured,” stated Kagombe.
Following the incident, an investigation into the mayhem began, and all MPs and bodyguards present were ordered to surrender their rifles for ballistic analysis.
