A former Kenyatta National Hospital (KHN) employee has been convicted of stealing medical medications while working there.

According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Magdaline Wambui Nganga was apprehended at the gate by security while carrying a cache of medicinal drugs.

The bag included seven packets of Nepilet Nebivolon 5mg, two packets of Atacand Candesartan 8mg, two packets of AIRTAL 100mg, two packets of Sildenafil 25mg, and one packet of Lamontrigine Lamictal 100mg.

The suspect was charged with two counts of theft by a servant in violation of Section 281 of the Penal Code and handling stolen property in violation of Section 322(1) as read with Section 322(2) of the Penal Code.

Milimani Chief Magistrate Hon. Susan Shitubi stated in her ruling on Thursday, May 23, that the evidence provided in court demonstrated that the accused individual obtained the medical supplies through her employment.

“The court further heard that the accused was found carrying the drugs by security officers while leaving the Hospital,” the ODPP said on Thursday.

The case is slated for sentencing on May 28, 2024.
