Raila Odinga Comes Out To Defend Azimio Politicians Ruto Took With To The US
Raila Odinga, the Azimio leader, supported a group of Azimio politicians who accompanied President William Ruto to the United States.
Odinga, in an official statement, revealed that the US government invited the Azimio leaders who accompanied the President.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party head was forced to make an explanation after certain party members expressed concerns over the participation of opposition leaders during Ruto’s State visit to the United States.
Among the famous Azimio politicians in Ruto’s US group were Opiyo Wandayi, the Minority Leader in the National Assembly, Homa Bay Governor Gladys Wanga, and her Machakos counterpart Wavinya Ndeti.
According to Odinga, the US government asked the coalition for permission to enable the three lawmakers to accompany the President on his journey to America.
Raila asserted that the coalition granted authorization since the travel was consistent with established democratic traditions and the national interest.
“The bipartisan delegation is in line with similar delegations to Kenya by top US leaders, including the visit to Kenya by then US president Barack Obama, which had Republican and Democratic congressional leaders,” Raila clarified.
The ODM leader also urged the group to take advantage of this rare chance and contribute to the resolution of issues that are most important to the majority of Kenyans.
The Azimio chairman urged the group to address a variety of concerns, including trade and investment partnerships, improved local healthcare prospects, corruption prevention, and job development.
Meanwhile, President William Ruto is presently in the United States on a four-day tour aimed at strengthening Kenya-America relations.
On May 22, Kenya’s Head of State landed in Washington, DC, accompanied by First Lady Rachel Ruto, for the second phase of his journey, when he met with US President Joe Biden.
Ruto and Biden plan to issue a joint statement on Thursday, May 23, reiterating the bilateral agreements achieved between the two countries.
