Expect moderate to heavy rainfall – Met Department Gives Weather Warning This Weekend

The Kenya Meteorological Department cautioned Kenyans on Friday to prepare for moderate to heavy rains in various parts of the country.

Rainfall is expected in counties in the Western area, the Rift Valley region, and the Central Highlands, which includes Nairobi County.

The weather department predicted that the above locations would get moderate to heavy rainfall over the weekend.

“From Friday 24 and Saturday 25 May, expect moderate to heavy rainfall in some parts of the country,” the meteorological department warned.

Rain was forecast in Nairobi’s Makadara, Westlands, Kamukunji, Embakasi Central, North and West, Mathare, and Ruaraka.

Kenyans residing in the aforementioned locations were urged to be on the lookout for potential floods, which might wreak destruction and even cause deaths.

According to Kenya Met, rain would fall in the afternoon following sunny and cloudy periods.

Additionally, rainy weather will be observed in Mombasa, Kisumu, and Nyeri, while Nakuru and Marsabit will have sunny intervals for much of the weekend.

Similarly, Meru, Kitui, Machakos, and Makindu were expected to have sunny intervals, while Lamu County will get light rains.

Kenyans were also cautioned to prepare for a temperature shift, with daytime temperatures likely to rise by more than 30°C and nighttime temperatures expected to plummet dramatically.

Most sections of the Coast, as well as North-eastern and North-western Kenya, will have average daily temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, average nighttime temperatures would fall to less than 10°C in several sections of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley.
