DCI Has Nabbed 3 Suspects With Ksh27.5M Cocaine And Flight Tickets

On Saturday, three suspects were ambushed by police officers in Donholm, Nairobi County, as they attempted to travel with cocaine worth Ksh27.5 million.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) stated that the three were apprehended carrying a bag containing 298 cocaine pellets disguised in three teddy bears.

The officers also discovered personal amenities and multiple tickets to various destinations, indicating that one of the suspects intended to travel.

“As the DCI tightens the noose on drug traffickers, three suspects found with 298 pellets of cocaine concealed in three teddy bears have been arrested at their house in New Donholm area, Nairobi,” read the DCI report in part.

“(The three) were intercepted yesterday by a team of ANU & OSU crime busters with a black suitcase, whose contents were a few clothes, toiletries and three teddy bears.

“On ripping the teddy bears open 298 pellets of the nose candy weighing about 6.8kg estimated at Sh27.5 million in street value were discovered, alongside several air tickets for different destinations in the name of the female suspect.”

The accused were also discovered with Ksh37,000 in cash, which the police traced back to unlawful trading.

The investigators stated that they were acting on a tip from members of the public who identified the three as conducting a criminal network.

“The DCI warns traffickers that their misplaced efforts will only earn them tickets to courtrooms and correctional facilities,” added the agency.

The arrest occurred after the agency discovered a loaded AK47 rifle and a bale of bhang stashed in a chimney inside a suspect’s home in Meru County.

When cops reached the home, the man apparently ran, leaving behind a magazine with 20 shots.

“Acting on a tip-off, Anti-Narcotics detectives augmented by their Transnational Organized Crimes Unit counterparts raided the two-bedroom house, whereupon search the rifle loaded with a magazine of 20 live rounds and a bale of bhang was found,” read the statement in part.

The cops initiated a manhunt for the culprit, who remains at large.
