Jeremiah Kioni Claims That DP Gachagua Wanted To Attend Limuru III
Jubilee Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni has said that Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other UDA leaders wanted to attend the Limuru III summit.
On May 17, certain Mt Kenya politicians, including Kioni and Narc Kenya Party leader Martha Karua, organized the Limuru III meeting, which brought together political groups from the central region.
Speaking on Sunday, Kioni described the summit as a people movement geared at tackling Mt Kenya issues.
“Gachagua was very desirous to come to Limuru III, just like Moses Kuria and all these other people in UDA. They all wanted to come to Limuru III because it was a rare opportunity that we created for the people of the mountain so that we speak out. An opportunity that has not been availed to them since we voted,” Kioni said.
The Limuru III socioeconomic and political conference’s organizers had stated that Gachagua and former President Uhuru Kenyatta were welcome to participate.
Prior to the conference, Gachagua requested that Kioni and Karua consult with him on Mount Kenya-related matters.
Gachagua had expressed an openness to discussing Mt Kenya-related concerns with leaders of all political groups.
“I have heard about the Limuru 3 meeting. Both Kioni and Karua haven’t reached out to me as the senior-most politician in the Mount Kenya region,” Gachagua said.
“Being the regional leader, it falls upon me to convene such meetings. If they indeed have an agenda, my office doors are open, and they should feel free to reach out.”
However, days after the conference, Gachagua stated that he would not remark on the event, claiming that he is a man with few words.
Kuria, who had planned to attend the meeting, canceled a day before the event.
The Jubilee SG expressed confidence in the result of the meeting, saying they are all unified.
“After the meeting, we are all reading from the same page. It was a people movement, myself, Narc Kenya Party Martha Karua and others were there to give guidance. The people came on their account,” Kioni added.
The Limuru III generated a new Mt Kenya group known as the Haki group.
The coalition is comprised of around 26 political parties from the Mount Kenya region.
Kioni stated that former President Uhuru Kenyatta will lead the community because he has no political ambitions.
He stated that the Haki Coalition will gather all Mt Kenya regional leaders together, regardless of political allegiance.
