President Ruto Set To Visit Switzerland For The Ukraine Peace Summit
The Office of Prime Cabinet Secretary (PCS) Musalia Mudavadi said on Friday that President William Ruto was among the heads of government invited to a conference in Switzerland.
According to PCS Musalia, the Summit on Peace in Ukraine, which will be held on June 15 and 16, will look into measures to resolve the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Mudavadi made the comment following a meeting with members of the European Union Delegation in Nairobi, led by Ambassador Henriette Geiger.
“The Summit seeks to provide a platform for high-level discussions on topics of global interest such as nuclear security, food security and freedom of navigation, and humanitarian issues,” the Prime Cabinet Secretary briefed Kenyans.
Heads of State and Government attending the summit will also reach a high-level political consensus on a comprehensive, just, and long-term peace in Ukraine based on the UN Charter.
Finally, PCS Musalia stated that the summit will kick off a peace process by debating, for the first time at the highest political level, a blueprint for involving both parties in such a process.
“The President has been invited, among other Heads of State and Government to participate at the Summit,” Mudavadi spoke of Ruto’s invite.
Mudavadi, who is also the Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs, appreciated the importance of the meeting and assured the EU delegation that the invitation will be carefully considered.
He also informed the team that Kenya is committed to a peaceful resolution of the Russia-Ukraine dispute.
To that end, Ruto’s administration has continued to call for a peaceful resolution to the crisis through diplomatic discussion.
President Ruto has stated on numerous occasions that Kenya’s foreign policy is focused on constructive engagement between opposing factions.
In addition to Ukraine and Russia, President Ruto has advocated for a peaceful resolution to ongoing hostilities in Sudan and South Sudan.
