Raila Is Qualified – Mudavadi On Odinga’s Candidature To AUC
Raila Odinga, Kenya’s opposition leader, has praised the government’s efforts to forward his bid for the African Union Commission chairperson position.
Raila expressed his admiration on Wednesday, following discussions with Prime Cabinet Secretary and Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi.
“I am encouraged by the level of senior government officials who have offered their support for this campaign. I appreciate the offer of support,” Raila said.
Raila, Kenya’s nominee for the AUC’s top job, expressed satisfaction that the government had assembled a team of senior officials to guide his quest.
“I was surprised when I saw the Kenyan government saying yes to my candidature. I expected them to say no,” Raila said.

Mudavadi stated that Raila has the essential and necessary credentials to lead the AU, emphasizing that it is not about local politics.
Raila stated that during Wednesday’s meeting, the government informed him of the circumstances, as well as the government’s level of readiness and commitment.
“I assured the team that I will tap into my experience and networks to win as many nations as I can,” Raila said.
“With the commitment between the government and my team, we will be able to clinch the seat.”
Raila stated that they agreed on the importance of efficiency, reducing bureaucracy, and presenting a well-oiled team moving ahead.
“We agreed on the need to understand the sensitivities in this quest be it national regional, continental and global in this quest,” he said.
Raila stated that he is vying for the job in Africa, not the Republic of Kenya.
“…. but I need an endorsement of the government of Kenya for that position,” he said.
Raila has the required and necessary credentials to lead the AU, according to Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, who emphasizes that it is not about local politics.
“We said yes because Raila is qualified and a Kenyan. This is not about local politics, it is about national interests,’‘ he said.
