MP Sudi Off The Hook As Court Drops Forgery Case Against Him

Oscar Sudi, MP for Kapsaret, was acquitted of forging academic certificates by a magistrates court.

Magistrate Felix Kombo stated that the state did not present a strong enough case against Sudi to justify his defense.

The magistrate ruled that the charge could not stand because the documents were not produced and proved.

He also criticized the investigative agencies for how they obtained some of the evidence.

The magistrate stated that part of the evidence in the case was obtained in a hotel, which raised credibility concerns.

The Investigating Officer (IO) in the Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi fake academic certificate case denied that the investigation was initiated with malice.

Derrick Kaisha told trial Magistrate Felix Kombo that the case was started “out of a sense of duty,” with no ulterior motives.

The witness maintained that they recommended Sudi be charged after discovering he had forged his academic papers.

The IO was testifying in a case in which Sudi was charged with forging academic certificates and making a false declaration to IEBC officials.

The Uasin Gishu Legislature was requesting permission from the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission and the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission to run in the 2013 general election.

He is also accused of submitting a false declaration under oath to the IEBC at Barng’etuny Plaza in Eldoret in 2015.

This is contrary to Section 46 of the Leadership and Integrity Act.
