Boda Boda Riders In Nairobi Ordered To Wear ID Pins As Sakaja Issues 5 Rules

Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja announced on Wednesday that the county was implementing new regulations for motorcycle riders in the city.

The new regulations will require boda boda operators in the CBD to wear a branded reflector jacket with the name of their Sacco printed on it.

Furthermore, each operator will be assigned a unique personal identification number, allowing legitimate members to be easily identified.

On Wednesday, boda boda sacco operators and Nairobi County’s Security and Compliance Chief Officer Tony Kimani met at the Green Park Terminus to reach these resolutions.

“The meeting resolved to have all CBD bodaboda operators to have branded reflectors according to the sacco’s name, an individual personal number for easy identification of legitimate members amongst riders, security marshal and motorbike users,” read the statement in part.

Furthermore, the county encouraged more boda boda riders to take advantage of company-provided opportunities to earn extra money, particularly by marketing products and services while wearing company reflectors.

Furthermore, the county official revealed that the boda sacco operators supported the county government’s idea to have them pay revenues to the county.

“As they welcomed the idea of paying revenue to the county and cooperating with compliance officers the bodaboda saccos present expressed gratitude to the leadership of Governor Sakaja, for the goodwill given to them to operate within CBD and promise readiness to cooperate with City authority to ensure smooth running of the business,” stated Sakaja.

The National Transport Safety Authority (NTSA) proposed a graduated licensing system for motorcycles, which prompted the development of these new regulations.

The NTSA also proposed implementing anti-lock braking systems and establishing acceptable safety standards for motorcycle helmets and hazard warning signs.

Furthermore, the NTSA investigated the possibility of establishing and operating a motorcycle helmet laboratory testing to ensure compliance with traffic laws.
