Students Block Kiambu Road In Protest Of Harassment
Kiambu Road in Nairobi has been rendered impassable following student protests.
Students from the Kiambu Institute of Technology took to the streets in large numbers on Monday morning, disrupting normal traffic flow.
According to media reports, they were protesting an alleged assault on one of their colleagues by security guards two days ago.
A video that went viral showed the student being clobbered by security personnel.
The incident depicted security personnel ganging up on the student and physically assaulting him.
As a result, the students have demanded that law enforcement officers arrest the security guards and conduct an investigation into the incident.

However, as of the publication of this article, the institution had yet to issue a statement regarding the protests.
A large police presence was also visible on the busy road after they were deployed to quell the protests.
The student protests have joined a wave of unrest across the country as Kenyans oppose the Finance Bill.
On Monday morning, residents of several constituencies, including Nyali and Kabete, stormed the offices of their elected representatives.
The residents demanded to speak with their MPs, claiming that they voted to pass the contentious Finance Bill of 2024.
Protests have also been planned for major towns throughout the country, including Nairobi.
